"I think this [the See the World Corporate Challenge] is a great way for a corporation to support a charity organisation. Instead of making a cash donation that staff may not be aware of, it invites all staff members to become involved. It promotes a great team environment during the fundraising events, as well as raising the awareness of The Fred Hollows Foundation amongst all staff members" - Sarah Nelson, Network Ten Corporate Challenge winner.

How the Network Ten Corporate Challenge worked...

Network Ten had already agreed to support The Fred Hollows Foundation when the 'See the World' Corporate Challenge concept was first presented. The Challenge seemed like a great way to get staff involved with an organisation that we were supporting, as well as getting staff within each of our national offices to work together.

Network Ten participated in the 2006 and 2007 Challenge.

How were the winners selected?

A representative from The Fred Hollows Foundation held an information session at each of our state offices. Staff were told about the chosen trip, given fundraising ideas and offered support by The Foundation.

Staff were then encouraged to submit a proposal to the 'See Nepal' judging panel (made up of management across the company) outlining what they would do to fundraise $2,750 for The Foundation (Network Ten wanted to pay for the trip portion so that every cent the staff member raised went to The Foundation).

Once all the proposals had been submitted, the judging panel selected a winner from each of NSW/ACT, VIC, QLD, WA and SA. The winners were chosen on the creativity and staff involvement of their fundraising ideas.

While only one person from each office could win the spot on the trip, it was important that all staff be involved in helping the winner reach their target.

Tips for future fundraisers?

Think of a combination of activities - some that people can get very involved in supporting if they wish and others which require less involvement (eg a sponsored event where you can just pay your sponsorship).

What have you got out of your involvement at an organisational level?

It was a great way to get staff in each state office working together and rallying behind the chosen staff member to meet their target.

This resulted in all states well exceeding their targets and raising valuable funds for The Foundation. Having one person from each state on the trip means that there is a team bonding element too.

It also means that upon their return, all state offices will share in their experiences, rather than only one office having this privilege.

Have you been satisfied with the support provided by The Fred Hollows Foundation?

Definitely. The fundraising packs and guidelines provided great support as did the individual contact made by the Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator at The Foundation. The staff never felt alone or overwhelmed by the task at hand.

Would you recommend the See the World Corporate Challenge to other organisations?

We did the Challenge two years consecutively so we are clearly happy with the response from staff and how well it was managed by The Fred Hollows Foundation and World Expeditions. I would most certainly recommend it to other organisations wishing to give something back to their staff and the international community.
